Blake Shelton talks about Gwen Stefani’s wedding song

Since their wedding in July, newlyweds Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani have opened up about everything from picking the perfect dress to, most recently, their wedding vows.

Shelton recently shared that as he stood at the altar with his wife, he expressed his wishes through a song, a gesture that surprised Stefani. The singer co-wrote “We Can Reach the Stars” with Craig Wiseman, and is set to release it on December 3.

Shelton revealed his feelings about the altar serenade during an appearance on Late at night with Seth Meyers October 6. It seems the element of surprise really worked in her favor by keeping her nerves down.

“I didn’t feel any pressure because she didn’t know I was going to do it,” Shelton explained. “There’s really no bar, you know, to sit here. “

Shelton may not have felt any nerves when it came to performing the song itself, but there was a hidden thought that plagued him throughout the performance.

“The only thing I was concerned about was breaking the bar stool they had to sit me on. It was literally something I had in mind.”

Although the song at the altar came as a surprise to Stefani, the idea came in part due to his influence on Shelton.

“Gwen is always, constantly on my ass, I should write more songs, ‘How come you don’t write more songs,” Shelton shared. “I have become lazy over the years. So I decided to step in and come up with something, so I did.

The release of “We Can Reach the Stars” will be part of a luxury release on Shelton’s latest album, Body language, previously published in May 2021.
