For years, Canadian singer and style enigma Celine Dion has dominated the streets of Paris for Fashion Week. There was a time when she wore a Richard Quinn dress and latex boots to walk her diamond-collared Weimaraners; the mystery of who her beautiful mate was at every show in 2019 (illustrator Pepe Munoz, but it turns out he was just a friend); and, my favorite, when she cried front row at the Valentino show at Couture Week two years ago. A red carpet maven since she wore this Costume Galliano backwards at the 1999 Oscars, Dion certainly never hesitated to adopt an avant-garde look.

This season, however, her heart for fashion may continue, but her presence at the Parisian catwalks was sorely missed, eventually leaving room for a replacement to don odd and, at times, outrageous ensembles at the most coveted catwalks.

In an unlikely turn of events, love songs fell flat in positive sex rap as American artist Cardi B pulled out every imaginable look imaginable for her surprise visit to Paris for the event. On the arm of her husband, Offset (also impeccably dressed), the future of fashion had said its prophecy – that WAP, its 2020 prize list, is the new ballad of Fashion Month.

It all started at Mugler Couturissime The show’s opening event, where B appeared in full showgirl form, announcing to her 111 million Instagram followers that she was a “MUGLER MAMI”. Sparkling sequins and frivolous feathers galore, it wasn’t too different from Dion’s Oscar de la Renta ensemble for the Met Gala in 2019. Cardi left the party in another Mugler look – a true diva shot – opting for this time for vampire glamor in a black leather and lace corset dress.

The next day, she roamed the streets of Paris in a Schiaparelli gold-plated bouclé jacket, the house’s iconic surreal jewelry and matching metal headgear. Divine. Creative director Daniel Roseberry has certainly had all week as Lady Gaga chose to don a custom Schiaparelli dress for the Academy Museum Of Motion Pictures opening gala two days before. Elsa Schiaparelli would tremble.

Another night on the town saw Cardi turn to British designer Richard Quinn for wardrobe wonders in the form of a floor-to-the-floor leather trenchcoat adorned with studs and spikes appealing to sheer punk perfection. Quinn also counts Dion among her adoring fans, just Google “Celine Dion’s dogs” for the most fabulous proof. B modeled two other Quinn creations throughout his journey; a grass green bodysuit, matching pants and beanie when visiting the Arc de Triomphe, and a lilac pleated dress with opera gloves and a headband on her last night of tour.

Cardi B sat in the front row for Balenciaga’s concept-chic runway show, while her husband paraded the catwalk. The couple have been close to home since Cardi launched her very first celebrity campaign last year. Opting for a magazine-print coat and oversized Couture headwear (very Isabella Blow), Cardi perfectly embodied the go-to label of the internet age.

The final stop on her Paris fashion tour was the Kate Moss x Messika High Jewelry fashion show and afterparty, where the rapper donned the aforementioned lilac look courtesy of Richard Quinn. Alongside Anna Wintour, Christian Louboutin and Kate Moss herself, her presence solidified the star in the inner circle of fashion.

That’s not to say that Cardi B didn’t have her haute couture hits before that, there was the personalized Jeremy Scott dress and gem-encrusted crown at the 2018 Met Gala and the infamous beaded gown from the archives. from Mugler to the Grammys the following year, but Paris certainly made her a true Fashion Week star. The girl who, in her own words, “went from making tuna sandwiches to the new one,” has certainly become a front row person to watch. Celine Dion will have to Think twice when planning her looks for next season.
