WELLSBURG – The Wellsburg Christmas Contest and Canned Good Drive took place on December 10, with the participation of nine contestants aged 7 weeks to 9 years old.

In addition to competing in various categories, annual event attendees are challenged to bring the most non-perishable food for a pantry operated by St. John’s Catholic Church.

Organizers said this was a banner year, generating nearly 3,000 canned pantry items and 24 Christmas crafts for residents of a local nursing home.

Alayna Woodburn and Jolene Fisher were crowned Christmas Queen and Princess of Cuteness respectively for collecting the most canned goods. Woodburn was also named Tiny Christmas Sweetheart and winner of the Best Hair Award. Fisher was also named Little Miss Christmas and winner for Best Eyes.

The other winners were: Evangeline Dulaney, Miss Baby Christmas and Better Smile; Avery Weber, Little Christmas Sweetheart and Miss Personality; Rose Perna, Christmas Sweetheart and Little Miss Photogenic; Hannah Gonzalez, Junior Christmas Princess, Miss Top Model and the Best Hair; Kaylee Burdette, Christmas Princess and Miss Top Model; and Kailey Swartz, Christmas Queen and Miss Cover Model.

Co-directors Ingrid Loy and Alexa Loy, the co-directors of the competition, thanked the contestants and their families for helping to make it a success, the judges of the event, the Wellsburg Christian Church for the use of their building and the students of Wheeling Central Catholic High School to unload and sort the many cans.
