CHESTER – In its second year, Chesterfest hopes to be bigger and better than its inaugural event.

The Christian Music Festival will be held from noon to 8 p.m. on Saturday August 7 at Chester City Park.

According to organizer Andrew Householder, in addition to eight musical acts, the event will feature speakers, food vendors and games.

Chick-fil-A, pizza, tacos and fair trade food will be available for purchase.

The Chester First Christian Church worship team, which is one of the event’s sponsors, plays the music for half an hour at noon. River City Praise of Destiny House; Crepe Jason; Wellsville First Christian Church (also a sponsor); Robert McGuire; the Rob Retzer trio; and Mark Blakeley also take the stage before the two main acts.

Josh Wilson will perform from 5 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. and Stars Go Sun from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. to close the event.

Householder said it offered the inaugural event in 2019 and added sponsors this year which also include Northside Church (in East Liverpool), Everyday Church (in Chester), Ohio Valley Christian Athletics, Householder Plumbing, Yellow Creek Casting Company , East End Lumber, JP’s Pizzeria and Grill, EJ’s, Rosebud Sanitation, Holiday Yacht Club, Shadybrook Mobile Home Park as well as Don and Peggy Simmons and John and Karen Special.

Plans to offer an expanded event last year have been thwarted due to the pandemic.

Householder said the main goal is to form a team to organize the subsequent events. “A lot of people struggle with depression, and I hope this will help bring passion and energy to this area as well as bring glory to God,” he concluded.

Admission is free for the event.
