Chillicothe Baseball Drop Two in Pool at Marshall Tournament

The Chillicothe High School baseball team competes in the Marshall Tournament at Marshall High School.

The round robin style tournament placed the Hornets in Pool 2 with Northwest and Summit Christian. The results of Friday’s pool match would determine each team’s standings for Saturday.

Game 1

In Game 1, the Hornets 0-2 tied the Northwest Mustangs 5-1. Manager Josh Lisle sent Max Wagers to manage the mound.

Northwest jumped to a 2-0 start in the top of the first inning before adding 3 more runs in the top of the third. No name was provided by the Mustangs, but their #20 had a 3-for-4 at plate. He scored 2 runs and scored two of his own while leading all batters in total bases with 5.

The bets went 4 innings and sacrificed six hits and 5 earned runs. He also withdrew five.

The Hornets managed to strike out their first run late in the fourth inning. Brock Ward doubled to start the half and was then moved to third on a pitch by Alijah Hibner. An error at third base allowed Ward to head home for the count.

Scoring stopped until 7and when the Hornets and Mustangs traded points. Justin Pyle had a first single and then scored on an error on a fly ball by Wyatt Brandsgaard.

In Game 1, the Hornets lost 6-2 to Northwestern Hughesville. Ward led the way offensively in Chillicothe going 2-for-3 with a brace and a run scored. Wagers and Pyle added one single each.

Game 2

Chillicothe, now 0-3, took on the Summit Christian Academy Eagles 3-0-1 in Game 2.

Brock Ward was sent as the starting pitcher to face Summit Christian’s Nathan Bartlett.

Ward was plagued with four walks in two innings as he allowed just one hit and struck out two. He conceded two points, only one was deserved.

SCA struck the first at the end of the second by tackling these two points.

The Eagles’ Garrett Ferguson was the driving force behind the offense in the first place. He was 3 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored as well as a walk.

Hornets Justin Pyle came on for a four-inning relief appearance in which he allowed six hits, two earned runs and two walks but had two Ks.

The Eagles would add these two points at the end of 6th tackles on a double from Ferguson.

Summit Christian’s Bartlett had 16 strikeouts and allowed only one hit in 6.1 innings of work. He also helped his cause by going 2 for 3 with a run and a walk.

Brock Miller collected the Hornets only touchdowns while Gage Leamer and Cayden Potter each earned walks. Potter had two interceptions.

The Hornets dropped the game 0-4 and received the third seed heading into Saturday’s tournament game.
