The story of Cyrano de Bergerac has been played out for many years; The Joe Wright film adaptation will feature stars and newcomers.

Upcoming from Joe Wright Cyrano will feature both seasoned performers and newcomers to the film adaptation of the Familiar Story. The film is based on a live musical, which is further adapted from the 19th century play Cyrano de Bergerac. The film features acclaimed actor Peter Dinklage as the main character.

The story follows the poet and nobleman Cyrano as he yearns for Roxanne, a woman who has fallen in love with another man. Cyrano hides his love from Roxanne because he thinks he’s ugly and fears rejection. When his less eloquent rival, Christian, asks Cyrano for help in winning over Roxanne, he begins writing letters to her using Christian’s name, but the two come to have conflicting feelings about cheating on her.

The tragic romance has been adapted several times with different twists as in Sierra Burgess is a loser which starred Shannon Purser, modernizing the story and gender-reversing the characters. Wright’s adaptation of the musical takes the story back to its original 19th-century France, but will introduce the songs of Aaron and Bryce Dessner of indie group The National to a wider audience. The cast will include artists who also played their part in the stage version, as well as new faces. Here are the cast and characters of Cyrano:


Peter Dinklage as Cyrano de Bergerac



Reprising the role of Cyrano from the 2018 musical is Peter Dinklage. Dinklage has a form of dwarfism known as achondroplasia, which affects bone growth; the film uses Dinklage’s resulting appearance for the story, while the original story attributes its “ugliness” to an extremely oversized nose. Dinklage is well known for playing protagonist Tyrion Lannister on Game of thrones, Bolivar Trask in X-Men: Days of Future Past, and Eitri in Avengers: Infinity War.

Hayley Bennett as Roxanne



Also resuming his role of the theatrical production of Cyrano, Hayley Bennett will play Roxanne, the object of Cyrano’s affections. Roxanne is a smart, beautiful woman whose family hopes to marry a rich man, while they dream of marrying for love. At the beginning of the story, she trusts Cyrano as a confidant and enjoys his company. Bennett was seen as Charlotte Russell in The devil all the time, Lindsay in Hillbilly elegy, and Megan Hipwell in The girl on the train.


Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Christian



Played by Kelvin Harrison Jr., Christian is the man Roxanne falls in love with. The plot of Cyrano is based on the love triangle between the main character, Roxanne, and Christian, because the latter is at a loss for words to pursue Roxanne and asks for Cyrano’s help. Harrison Jr. is a rising star who has been seen both as Fred Hampton in The Chicago 7 trial and Andy Morrison in The photograph in 2020.

Bashir Salahuddin as Le Bret



Le Bret is a close friend and confidant of Cyrano, played in the film by actor Bashir Salahuddin. Previously writer for Late at night with Jimmy Fallon, Salahuddin has had small roles in many TV comedies, including Development stopped and Hypermarket, as well as a recurring role of Keith Bang in GLOW. He has also booked roles in films such as Detective Summerville in A simple favor and an as yet undisclosed role in Top Gun: Maverick.

Ben Mendelsohn as De Guiche



De Guiche is a wealthy nobleman who is also in pursuit of the affections of Roxanne, portrayed in Cyrano by Australian actor Ben Mendelsohn. He has experience in the role of nefarious characters, including director Orson Krennic in Thief one and Nolan Sorrento in Loan Player One. He’s also been considered the shapeshifter, Talos, in the MCUs. Captain marvel and Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Supporting actors and characters

Monica Dolan as Marie – Marie is Roxanne’s chaperone; Dolan can be seen as May Brown in Netflix Excavation.

Peter Wight as Ragueneau – Ragueneau is another poet and friend of Cyrano, played by Wight who previously worked with director Joe Wright as Mr. Gardiner in Pride and Prejudice.


Mark Benton as Montfleury – An actor that Cyrano hates, Montfleury is played by Benton, a television show of the ancients The Halcyon on which he played Feldman.

Joshua James as Valver – A rich nobleman who is also seeking Roxanne’s hand. James was previously seen as Jinn on HBO Max Raised by wolves.
