North Beaches Angel Gift

The Outer Banks Woman’s Club is seeking sponsors and donors for its Angel Gift program, which is now in its 34th year. The club is joining a collaborative effort with the Dare County Department of Health and Human Services, whose role is to screen candidates.

Residents interested in seeking help through the Angel Gift program should apply by calling or visiting the Dare County Health and Human Services Department in Manteo at 252.475.5500. Applications will be received by telephone from October 12, 2021 to November 3, 2021. This is the ONLY application period.

Families eligible for the Angel Gift program who live in northern Oregon Inlet must be below 200% of the federal poverty level, however unique situations will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Additionally, applicants must provide proof of income and a completed application. Due to increased participation, priority will be given to eligible families who were not assisted last year. Additional families will be included, funds permitting, on a first come, first served basis.

The continued success of this program would not be possible without the generous support and funding provided by businesses, organizations and individuals in Dare County and beyond.

For more information on sponsorship or donation opportunities, please call the Outer Banks Women’s Club at 252.455.0163. For questions regarding applications, please contact Leigh Brinkley at 252.475.5566.

Hatteras Island Angel Gift

The coalition that implements the Hatteras Island Angel Gift program is looking for sponsors, donors and candidates for the upcoming holiday season. The program is offered in conjunction with individuals, businesses, churches and other organizations committed to bringing Christmas joy to the children of Hatteras Island. The Dare County Department of Health and Human Services works with these organizations to provide referrals, administrative support and identify the needs of families, as well as to help protect the confidentiality of the request.

Most donations come from local businesses, organizations and individuals. In addition to donation boxes and angel requests located in businesses for donors to sponsor, monetary and toy donations are also accepted. Angel Gift volunteers will shop after the donation deadline, which is December 1, 2021.

For families needing help this Christmas, Hatteras Island Angel Gift requests can be picked up and dropped off at the Dare County Department of Health and Human Services Frisco Campus. The registration dates will run from October 4, 2021 to November 1, 2021.

Participants do not need to be a Department of Health and Human Services client to receive an angel gift. Participants must live on Hatteras Island and gifts are only available to children in the care of the applicant. Telephone interviews will be required to verify information and assess needs once completed applications have been submitted. Children from 0 to 14 years old are eligible for sponsorship. Other children in the household with eligible children may be included if they are under 16 and enrolled in school. For families who have received Angel Gift for three consecutive years, the application will be reviewed by the committee and sponsorship is not guaranteed. Situations related to COVID-19 will be taken into consideration.

For any questions regarding the program or to make a donation, please contact the program coordinator, Linda Oneal, with Hatteras United Methodist Church at 252.986.2149 or Jessica Nonnenmocher at 252.475.4390.
