Disney unveils poster for The Little Mermaid

The first look at the live adaptation of The little Mermaidstarring Halle Bailey and directed by Rob Marshall, was finally unveiled by Disney at Expo D23.

According Deadline, the next film is set to hit theaters on May 26. At the event, Bailey today said it was the first time she had seen footage from the film. “I’m sure all of you here can relate to Ariel and how special she is to all of us,” she said from the stage.

The film is based on the 1989 Disney animated classic, itself based on a fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen. The story centers on the mermaid princess Ariel, who makes a Faustian bargain with the sea witch Ursala in an effort to become human and win the love of a prince.

Clements and John Musker wrote and directed the original film, which became an instant classic upon release, grossing over $211 million worldwide and winning Oscars for Best Music, Original score and Best Music, original songas well as two Golden Globes, a Grammy and other accolades, Deadline reported.

David Magee and Jane Goldman scripted the new version, in which Halle Bailey will star as Ariel, with Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric and Javier Bardem as The King Triton.

According to Deadline, the development of live action Little Mermaid began in 2016. The upcoming musical fantasy picture will feature songs created for the original film, as well as new ones written by original composer Alan Menken, with lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda. (ANI)
