GEICO Patriot League Men’s Basketball Players of the Week Announcement (2.14.22)

BETHLEHEM, Pennsylvania – Boston University graduate student guard Javante McCoy received the GEICO Patriot League Men’s Basketball Player of the Week when the league office announced the weekly accolades on Monday. Holy Cross freshman goaltender Kyrell Luc won his fifth Rookie of the Week.

McCoy won GEICO Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the second time this season and third time in his career after averaging 19.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists to lead the Terriers to a 2-0 week with wins over Army West Point and American.


Luc earned GEICO Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week after averaging 17.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.0 steals to lead the Crusaders to a 2-1 week with wins on Loyola Maryland and Bucknell.


Colgate junior forward Keegan Records, Holy Cross senior forward Gerrale Gates, Lehigh senior center Nic Lynch and Navy junior forward Tyler Nelson received honorable mentions for their performances last week.


Patriot League Men’s Basketball Players of the Week are selected in a vote by members of the League’s media and each school’s director of sports information, who are ineligible to vote. for their student-athletes.

* McCoy averaged 19.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists while shooting 56% (15 for 27) from the floor to guide the Terriers to wins over Army West Point (75-74) and American (85-67).
* The league’s preseason player of the year finished with 13 points, nine rebounds and six assists, including a last-second feed on what turned out to be a game-winning layup and shot frank against the Black Knights.
* Against American, McCoy scored a game-high 25 points on 9-of-14 shooting, marking his sixth game of 20 or more points this season.

*Luc averaged 17.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.0 steals per game to help Holy Cross go 2-1 with wins over Loyola Maryland and Bucknell. He also shot 87.5% from the free throw line in three games.
* The five-time rookie of the week scored 18 points and seven points in a 68-64 win over Loyola Maryland on Wednesday before finishing with 14 points and six assists in a 78-72 victory at Bucknell on Saturday.
* He scored a team-high 21 points and caught five boards in a loss at Colgate last Monday.

*Records averaged 14.3 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.3 blocks while shooting 83% (19 for 23) from the floor to help Colgate to wins over Holy Cross (87-60), Lehigh (78-62) and Loyola Maryland (64-56) last week. He shot 8 of 11 from the floor to score 16 points in the Raiders’ win over the Crusaders.

* Gates averaged 16.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists to lead Holy Cross to a 2-1 week with wins over Loyola Maryland (68-64) and Bucknell (78-72). He scored a team-high 23 points against the Greyhounds and recorded his 10th double-double of the season with 19 points and 10 boards against the Bison.



Nic Lynch, Lehigh, Sr., C, Seattle, Washington/Seattle Prep

*Lynch averaged 15.0 points and 6.0 rebounds while shooting 60 percent (12 for 20) from the field in Lehigh’s losses to Colgate and Lafayette. He posted a team-high 18 points and added nine rebounds against the Raiders.



Tyler Nelson, Navy, Jr., F, Monroe, NC/Metrolina Christian Academy
*Nelson averaged 13.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals to help Navy defeat Lafayette (68-44) and Army West Point (52-49) last week. On Saturday, he scored a team-high 16 points and knocked down seven boards against the Black Knights.
