Hilda Gray was born February 6, 1935 in Whigham, Georgia, the daughter of Paul Augustus and Mattie Hollingsworth Gray. She was a graduate of Mitchell County High School. Hilda has lived most of her life in southwest Georgia, where most remember her as the face of the bank. Hilda worked at C&S Bank and later retired from Park Avenue Bank. She was a member of the First Christian Church.

Hilda was Bainbridge’s 4-1-1. She loved people and enjoyed every minute of doing for them. She cooked for the masses on almost every occasion, served as president of the Service Club and was affectionately known as ‘Rosie’ when she was a troop leader for the Brownies & Girl Scouts. One year, Hilda managed to make the uniforms for the BHS Band. ‘Visiting’ was her favorite pastime, although she obviously also loved to sew. She was an avid reader, but only when time permitted; otherwise, she was in the flowerbeds. Traveling and dancing with Bobby made her smile. The joy of his heart was in his children and grandchildren. One of a kind. Friend for life. Endless love.

Survivors include his children, Fran Connell Trulock of Bainbridge, Libby Connell Prince of Athens, GA, Keith and Kaye Midler of Jackson, MS, Paul Midler of Bainbridge, Jan Stevens Thienpont of San Antonio and Joni and Tom Skaggs of Foley Beach, AL; his grandchildren, Heys & Brooke, Blake & Ashley, Alex, Michael & Hillary, Rachel & Bob, Doug & Theres, Heath & Kelly, Jess & Charlanna and Josh & Wesley; his great-grandchildren, Ava, Owen, Ezra, Maggie, Geneieve, Abe, Brock, Lillie, Johnnie, Ann Vivian, Elisabeth, Charlie and Ridley; and many special nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Hilda was predeceased by her husband, Bobby Stevens; his son, Michael Earl “Mickey” Connell; and her siblings, Christine Harrell, MC Gray and LB Gray.
