How Benton Harbor Will Benefit From The New Infrastructure Bill

PORT OF BENTON, MI. (WNDU) – The infrastructure bill has been passed by Congress and is expected to arrive on President Biden’s desk tomorrow for signing on Monday.

The State of Michigan is committed to replacing all major service lines in Benton Harbor by April 2023.

It is because of the $ 1.3 billion Michigan is expected to receive from this bipartisan infrastructure deal.

In a statement from Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s office.

He says the state will work with federal partners, officials and community leaders to share up-to-date information and leverage all available resources to expedite the replacement of main service lines.

“Uh, you know, a lot of those lines. And it’s the same in a lot of different communities, you know, 60, 80 years ago, you know, we had changes in our health and we know lead is not good for you, and you know, it’s going to help replace those lines and it’s a good start to where we want to end up, ”said Fred Upton, the US representative for Michigan’s 6th Congressional District.

In the meantime, over the next few days, residents will be able to purchase bottled water at-

Monday and Tuesday: Southwest Community Action Agency or Abundant Life Church of God until 2 p.m.

Tuesday: Ebenezer Baptist Church

Wednesday: Sud-Ouest Community Action Agency from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The city also offers free blood lead tests to residents of all ages.

Monday and Tuesday: Discovery Enrichment Center from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
