Lyda M. Venia (Hammond) Krell

Lyda M. Venia (Hammond) Krell passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on Monday, January 3, 2022. She resided in Otterbein Monclova but lived for decades in Point Place. Lyda was born to Francis H. Venia and Margaret M. (Ebersole) Venia of Toledo on July 6, 1927. She graduated from Waite High School, attended Toledo University College of Pharmacy, and worked for various retail stores. In 1995, Lyda retired from Petrie’s after 15 years of employment. Lyda was a member of St. John the Baptist Church of Point Place for over 50 years. Lyda was a devout Catholic who always had her rosary nearby. She loved reading, crosswords, family vacations and was always delighted when family came to visit.

Lyda is survived by her son, Gary (Mary Beth) Hammond of Toledo; daughter, Diane Heidelberg of Maumee; sister, C. Annette Brown of California; sister, Mary Venia of Perrysburg; and his brother, James (Nancy) Venia of Toledo. Lyda’s grandchildren, Amy (Teddy) Peacock of Michigan, Craig (Christy) Heidelberg of Sylvania, Sarah Heidelberg of California, James (Jami) Hammond of Toledo and Jonathon (Holly) Hammond of Sylvania; The ten great-grandchildren of Lyda, Logan, Lexie, Lucas, Jacob, Julianne, Jaclyn, Carter, Cora, Casey and Caleb.

Preceded in death was his infant son, Baby Hammond; mother, Margaret M. Venia; father, Francis H. Venia; and his siblings, Tommy Joe Venia, Robert Venia, Richard Venia, Frank Venia and Emma Manthey.

The family is grateful to the staff at Heartland Hospice who helped find comfort for Lyda. Special thanks to Sr. Mary Beatrice Ann SND and Sr. Mary Francis Theresa, SND for all their visits and shared prayers with Lyda. Thanks to Saint Joseph de Maumee for all the Sundays where they ensured prayer and communion. Thanks to Dale Katcher, hospice chaplain, for all the prayers and the wonderful Christian songs he sang with Lyda.

Visitation will be Friday, January 28, 2022 at Newcomer Southwest Chapel, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo, OH 43614 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with prayer service beginning at 7:00 p.m.

A private family prayer service will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2022 followed by interment at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery, Erie Road, Temperance, Michigan.

Future Memorial Masses will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 5153 N. Summit Street, Toledo, OH 43611 and St. Joseph Catholic Church, 104 W. Broadway, Maumee, OH 43537.
