DT D’Andre Martin (6-4293) of Durham, NC plans to name his last two Friday afternoon, and it would be a big surprise if USC isn’t one of the two programs he is naming. Martin plans to tweet the last two at 2:00 p.m. His top five were USC, Virginia Tech, Duke, Florida State and Tennessee.

Martin made an unofficial visit to USC for an lineman’s camp in June and defensive line coach Jimmy Lindsey has been in regular contact ever since.

“Me and Coach Lindsey were on the phone a few days ago talking about football stuff, like how everything is going, how is the family, all of that,” Martin said. ” What is happening. Just the little things, make sure everything is okay.

Lindsey was exposed to Gamecock’s coaches and some of the inner workings of the program when she visited in June. And he’s coming back for more as he plans to attend the Prospects BBQ on July 31 with his dad and uncle. He will announce his collegial engagement the next day.

“I love the energy,” Martin said of USC coaches. “They have always shown their support, making sure I have everything I need and the tools to be able to be awesome.”

Martin also made an official visit to Virginia Tech in June and made unofficial visits to Duke, Tennessee, Virginia and the state of Florida.

Being developed and having a solid relationship with his coaches are important elements for Martin. He said the two schools he had downstairs ticked those boxes.

“The coaches were No. 1,” said Martin. “The coaching staff at these two schools really said it all for me. But not just the coaching staff, but the environment. They showed me that this is a school that I can see myself in the next four years even if I don’t play football.

Martin reclassified from the 2021 class. He also grew a lot, forcing a change of position from wide receiver / tight end to defensive tackle. He attended Life Christian Academy in South Chesterfield, Virginia.
