Grace Mbugua signed up to Liberty University on Friday, September 17, 2021. She received a full scholarship to play basketball when she graduated in 2025 from Danville Christian Academy. Liberty University is a Division 1 university located in Lynchburg, Virginia.
As she made her announcement, Mbugua thanked those who have helped her achieve this goal.
“Hello everyone, my name is Grace Mbugua. I want to thank all of you for joining me today. First of all, I want to thank God for this immense blessing. I also want to thank my parents Dennys and Beatrice Mbugua for all the sacrifice, hard work and love that made me who I am today.
“I want to thank my two sisters, Esther and Ruth, for all their love and support. I want to thank my DCA family who have loved me from the start. I want to thank my coaches and my teammates. I wouldn’t be the player I am today without them. I also want to thank all the colleges who recruited me. Ultimately, I wanted to go to a first division college and I also wanted a Christ-centered environment. When I went to Liberty I was able to feel the wonderful spirit there and I knew this was where I wanted to be. So today I want to announce that Liberty University has offered me full scholarship and I commit to Liberty University.
“I want to thank Coach Green, Coach Alexis, Coach Andy, Coach Katie and all the coaching staff at Liberty for all the confidence they have in me, and I am delighted to be working every day to become the best player possible. I can’t wait to join Liberty, which is an amazing Christ-centered university, and share my divine skills with them, find new friends and family, and have an amazing experience. Liberty’s motto is Training Champions for Christ, and I pray that God will allow me to be a champion for him. Thank you all for being there, God bless you.
