Trinity Episcopal Church in Houghton, Michigan is a small congregation with abundant potential. We are located on the Keweenaw Peninsula in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, in the heart of a vibrant college town that is home to Michigan University of Technology and Finlandia University.

As a small community, we rely on the gifts of all, with a collaborative ministry at the heart of
our being. All voices are valued in our community and we strive to make decisions by consensus. In our common worship, we have used traditional BCP in recent years and have sometimes tried and enjoyed alternatives; we are certainly open-minded to new avenues to follow as we grow older. We have a beautiful worship space and are fortunate to have a gifted organist. Rich and theologically grounded preaching has been important in our life and ministry together. We pride ourselves on our spiritual practice of hospitality and hospitality.
We are in a time of renewal, eager to redefine our mission and vision for our community.

We are deeply committed to reaching out to the Houghton / Hancock community and engaging in missionary work. Along with the diocese as a whole, reconciliation ministries are a high priority.

We look forward to partnering with a priest who will lead us deeper
in our own gifts of ministry and mission. We see great hope and great need all around us. We belong to the Diocese of Northern Michigan, a diocese with a rich history of shared ministry. We are thirsty for renewal, but we are not looking for a priest to come and save us.

We know that the institutional church is in decline these days, and our future is uncertain. However, we see an abundant life and spirit in our community and we believe we have a role to play in it. More than that, we see that all the elements of successful parishes elsewhere are in place here, and that only a professional minister filled with the Spirit is missing to help us reach out, harmonize and amplify our work. . We choose life over death and we are looking for someone with a positive outlook who believes in a new life, even if it means that we have to give up some of our old ways. We understand that meeting the needs of those who serve our community is a no-brainer. Accordingly, we expect the priest who responds to this call:
– Use all their vacation time
–Make friends and family a priority
–Be equally dedicated to spiritual, emotional and physical health
–Share an infectious faith and seek spiritual direction regularly
