When the Pasadena-First Baptist Christian Academy football program returned to the six-a-side game this fall, no one considered the accolades that would come from the Warriors.

They had such a big hit in the first year, ever generated, that their 10-1 season record and 4-0 district scoring were immensely rewarded by the I-District 7 Division coaches.

Topped by Warriors running back Donald Guillory winning MVP honors, three FBCA players received specialty awards to go along with 11 others nominated to the All-District squad of the district champions list.

Longtime FBCA Head Coach Justin Larsen was a fourth selection for these Specialty Awards when he was named Coach of the Year.

Ranked fourth in the state for Division I schools by sixmanfootball.com, the Warriors’ only loss was at the hands of Houston Emery-Weiner on November 20, who won the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) Division I State Championship Thursday night, beating San Marcos Academy 69-24.

“Overall I was very satisfied and not just with the dashboard. You want the kids to progress throughout the year and that’s what they did. They didn’t miss training, they cared about each other, they worked hard. They did it right. They glorified Christ in everything they’ve done. They have been a blessing to the coaches and they are all excited to be back to work, ”said Larsen.

Guillory made those 80-meter pitches even shorter with his speed and athleticism. Larsen’s response after describing a win regularly began with “Donald had his usual two or three touchdowns.”

But his MVP award was likely sealed for his high school work in which he won second-team honors along with his younger brother Dylan Guillory.

Add Nick Gay, who was selected as the defensive MVP, and Harrison Brown taking first-team honors as well as Canon Thompson’s honorable mention, these are five players who are earning accolades in all districts purely for their high school efforts. .

With Aiden Martinez, who was named the offensive MVP and Travis Gray both earning first-team honors for their work in the offensive line, Gray securing his award for his work at center, the points producers had a strong supporting cast. .

At the back of the utility, Matthew Cundiff was named to the first team and the Dallas Post received an honorable mention. Both are juniors. Guillory and Cundiff had 717 yards in the district and 14 touchdowns on 57 attempts.

Jonas Laredo has been named in the running back’s second team. Brown was also recognized on the offensive side of the ball when he was named to the second team for receivers.

Quarterback Noah Gasque, another junior, won second team accolades, but he was also elected in the first team for linebackers, while Cundiff and Post took second team honors. Gasque finished with 12 tackles, four more for losses, two interceptions and two forced fumbles.

When Gay wasn’t pestering receivers and running backs, he had time to enjoy a strong season on the other side of the ball at the tight end, which earned him first-team laurels.

On the defensive line, Laredo and Martinez were elected to the first team and Gray earned an honorable mention.

In special teams, rookie Konnor Crawford was named Honorable Mention for kickers after successfully connecting on 14 PAT, which are worth two points in six-a-side football.

The FBCA also received the Newcomer of the Year award.

Carrollton-Prince of Peace took home the remaining awards, including Special Teams Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Lineman of the Year.
