Two Lutheran churches and congregations share the same pastor and have found a stronger sense of community through working together.

The Spirit of Life Ministry is a ministry shared by Abundant Life Lutheran Church and Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.

“So this partnership has been going on for several years, five or six in fact,” says Pastor Jeremy Langner. “It all started with a need that both congregations recognized to partner in partnership with someone else. They hoped to share a pastor and resources together.”

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada organized a regional gathering and it was there that the two churches met and began to talk about this shared ministry.

“They called me at the end of 2019 and we started working on a new, more formal arrangement to partner with each other. In that, we started dreaming up a new vision of who we are together. C That’s when we came up with the name Spirit of Life Ministry to describe who we are together.”

The two congregations still meet separately in their own buildings, one in East St. Paul and the other in Winnipeg.

“We’re collaborating and doing more things together. Especially during this pandemic, we’ve been making decisions together, doing alternate worship, and it’s been great to have a partner in these tough times.”

As of March 2020, the services are online and livestreamed. Pastor Langner says he hopes to have in-person services soon.

“The pandemic brought us together in a new way because all of a sudden place didn’t matter as much. It didn’t matter where you were because anyone could join. Congregations learned get to know each other a little better and it’s built a stronger sense of community.”

The Shawnee Ministerial Association (SMA) plans to bring back the community ecumenical worship series this year after the 2020 series was halted after two services due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Also, due to the pandemic, plans for the series in 2021 have been canceled.

This year, SMA has scheduled eight churches from seven denominations to take over the series.

Worship is scheduled for noon each Thursday during Lent with a different church each week thereafter. A fraternal meal follows a short adoration. The meal is provided by the host church with donations accepted to help offset the cost of the meal.

Host church pastors plan to follow all safety precautions in effect at the time of the host regarding the COVID-19 status at that time.

Westminster Presbyterian Church
Our worship service this week, both in person and live at 10:00 am, on our YouTube channel (Westminster Presbyterian Church Pasadena, CA), celebrates the First Sunday of Advent with the Lord’s Supper.
Reverend Dr. Twining Campbell invites the community, both present and online, to worship, and then Dr. Imre Szilas performs the Prelude: “Andante in Bb” from WA Mozart’s Piano Concerto in D minor.
After the Westminster chimes, Pastor Twine leads the community in the call to worship and we join in singing the first and last stanzas of hymn 726: “Will you come and follow me”.
Pastor Twine then shares the announcements, prayer concerns and leads the congregation in prayer. As we get used to a new “normal”, we pass the peace by greeting each other on the spot. When we have finished greeting each other, we come back together to participate in the Affirmation of Faith.
Reverend Dr. Martha Campbell leads us in the Enlightenment Prayer and reads the Bible Lesson from Joshua 1: 1-9.
It’s Pastor Martha and Pastor Twine’s last Sunday in Westminster before they retire from active ministry. Pastor Martha’s final sermon emphasizes that God is with us now and always, and when we need it, we can rely on the strength of the Lord. Pastor Twine’s last sermon immediately resumes on the basis of Paul’s greeting to the Philippians and farewell to the Corinthians. The word goodbye is a corruption of the farewell prayer of long ago, “God be with you.” Prayer makes it easier to adapt to changes.
The offering is introduced and Imre Szilas plays the hymn of the offertory.
After the dedication prayer, we move on to the celebration of the Lord’s Supper – we encourage you to gather the supplies you need. (Something to eat and drink – can be anything: bread and wine, coffee and a donut, milk and cookies, juice and crackers, soda and fries. It doesn’t matter what. you eat – but what they represent when you eat them during this service.) Following the Invitation, Great Prayer of Thanksgiving and Our Father; Pastors Martha and Twine share the elements. Participants can take Communion in the sanctuary; those who watch live are encouraged to commune as best they can. This part of the service ends with prayer in unison after Communion.
The service ends when we sing the first and fourth stanzas of Hymn 540: “God be with you until we meet again”. Then Pastor Martha and Pastor Twine offer the charge and blessing. The Postlude: “Praise the Lord with Drums and Cymbals”, is by Siegfried Karg-Élert and is played by Imre Szilas, on the Westminster organ.
Our services are directed by Robert Smith, filmed by Amy Szilas with the sound of Fletcher Paddock and are available on our YouTube pages (Westminster Presbyterian Church, Pasadena, CA).

Starting with the Santa Run 5K and Fun Run in Rustic Park, the community of Birdsboro celebrated a day of holiday fun, shopping, food and crafts at Christmas in Birdsboro, ending with a lighting ceremony for the children. trees.

Families enjoyed holiday shopping at the Santa’s Workshop Arts and Crafts Show featuring over 40 artisans in the Birdsboro Memorial Community Center gym. Kids could make their own beaded snowflake ornament in the kids craft area. For those 21 and over, there was also a beer and wine tasting featuring Ridgewood Winery, Oakbrook Brewing Company, and Saucony Creek Brewery.

The Boone Area Library hosted a gingerbread contest, story hour and bake sale. The First Street Players also provided 20 minute performances in their building.

That afternoon into the evening there was live music, Santa Claus, a nursery, free food, and free kid-friendly activities enjoyed by a crowd at Main Bird Park.

Everything in the park was free on December 11th.

Daniel Boone Girl Scouts donated fire starters, M&M pretzels, soap and dog treats. Christine Bell handed out bags of candy. Cub Scout Pack 595 had hot dogs and hot chocolate. The Woman’s Club in Birdsboro had hot apple cider and cookies. Uncle Jack’s Corner had hot soup. Pip and Lily’s Loaded Tots, a new local food truck, handed out samples. “The wind and rain resisted and we had a great time. At St. Mark’s Church, we handed out about 400 walking tacos as well as cookies with cookie cutters and recipes, ”St. Mark’s posted on its Facebook page. “What a great event. So nice to see all of our neighbors and the many churches and groups that participated.

The tree lighting ceremony concluded the day’s events with Ms. Pennsylvania 2022 Brianne Houck, of Birdsboro, officially lighting the tree.

“It was such an honor to be part of Christmas in Birdsboro and to be invited to light the tree,” Houck said on social media. “Since Birdsboro is my hometown (I grew up in a house about a mile from this park and my parents still live in this house), this was an especially special event for me!”

Due to the wind warning, the fireworks display and bonfire have been canceled, but organizers are working on a postponement for New Years Eve.

The American Red Cross recently announced it was at “historically low” blood supply levels. As a result, the agency, which provides 40% of the country’s transfusion blood, appealed for donations of blood and blood products.

The need for blood donation is great this time of year, and American Red Cross Greater St. Louis Executive Director Beth Elders encourages everyone to donate. Video by Hillary Levin

Holiday activity, winter weather conditions and the lingering challenges of the pandemic are contributing to a drop in blood and platelet donations at this time, according to the Red Cross.

Donors can schedule appointments using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org, or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). There is no waiting period for donating blood for those who have received a flu shot or a Moderna, Pfizer or Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine or booster, as long as they have no symptom.

Those who donate from December 17 to January 2 will receive a Red Cross long sleeve t-shirt, while supplies last.

Here are the times, dates and places to donate blood in our region.
