Top 10 contestant Mike Parker eliminated from ‘American Idol’
Mike Parker has come a long way since beginning his journey on season 20 of american idol. But Sunday night (May 1) marked the end of the road for him, as he was one of three contestants eliminated at the end of the two-hour telecast.
Standing apart from the competition’s Top 10, Parker represented the country genre throughout the season, delivering covers of songs like Morgan Wallen’s “Chasin’ You”, Deana Carter’s “Strawberry Wine” and Luke’s “Hurricane”. Combs. He ended his run on the show with a performance of “You’ll Be in My Heart” by Phil Collins.
He dedicated the heartfelt rendition of the song to his mother, DeJuanna, who battled leukemia. Before going on stage, Parker received musical advice from guest mentor Derek Hough for his performance.
“I really want to feel like you’re singing that to your mom,” Hough told Parker. “As if it was really just a conversation between you and her.” Sometimes being overwhelmed with emotion is more powerful than being perfect.
On stage, Parker demonstrated conviction while displaying his deep country voice alongside hard-hitting drum beats. Even judges Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan and Katy Perry couldn’t help but applaud her for her solid performance and impressive falsetto.
“Mike Parker! With the key change and all that at the end, who are you? Perry beamed. “It’s amazing that you sang this with your mother and your heart and we could feel every moment of it.”
“When you really sit down and listen to this song, what an amazing song to get through and navigate. You showed us new elements. It was amazing and great work. added Luke Bryan.
“Your mother said it best when she said, ‘I came here to see my Top 10 No. 1 superstar son,'” Lionel Richie added.
Indeed, Parker’s mother was well enough to pay her son a special visit during the Disney-themed episode, which took place at Disneyland. So even though the singer didn’t make it into the Top 7, he was able to spend some quality time with his family.
Those who will advance when american idol returning are Christian Guardino, HunterGirl, Leah Marlene, Nicolina Bozzo, Jay Copeland, Noah Thompson and Fritz Hager.
Prospects Lady K and Emyrson Flora were also dropped from competition on Sunday.
