It is What you missed last month (according to Linux), in which the nightlife Linux it girl takes us behind the velvet rope and into the VIP section of Scene City. Linux is the tea party on what really happened at every party of the century that floods your Instagram feeds. In October, follow Linux as it embraces New York’s favorite season: Halloween. (And don’t take what she says too seriously, she’s just a club kid after all!).

Boo! Did I scare you? For the first time since 2019, New York City finally had a real Halloween moment. In 2020, we could only wear our costumes at sit-down events or raves in the woods, but we couldn’t post our looks for fear of being canceled. Of course, Halloween in 2021 wasn’t entirely “back,” as New York’s Halloween must-haves are still on hiatus. The iconic MoMA PS1 Halloween ball, usually thrown by Susanne Bartsch, is only a distant memory. Model turned costume queen Heidi Klum says she doesn’t feel “safe” enough to bring back her annual celebrity-filled Halloween party. Sigh. I was so can’t wait to see her in Lavo disguised as Shrek’s girlfriend!

Lucky for us, Heidi was the only celebrity who stayed home this season. Every warehouse, nightclub, and penthouse was filled with New Yorkers eager to show off their essential slutty costumes. Naturally, I was at every bash (I even managed to be in a few places at a time). I can’t wait to tell you what happened back home – or, at least, what I remember!

October 26 – One Management Halloween Party

The New York-based model agency threw a Halloween party 6 days before the actual Halloween – and that was one for the books! (You understand? Books? Because it’s an agency?). On a brand new Chelsea rooftop called Somewhere Nowhere, hundreds of models have gathered to drink alcohol and talk about the shit about the designers who hire them, while taking in the views of the Manhattan skyline. The agency president, dressed in a full tuxedo, was seated at a VIP table overlooking all the sample-sized models that make his money. They almost wouldn’t let me in when I arrived because my name wasn’t on the guest list. I had to point out to them that my name was not on the list because it was on the flyer! Cara Delevingne and I spoke for a brief moment – at least I think it was her… she’s a model, right?

October 29 – Muscle Memory: Dead Celebs @ Knockdown Center

Of course, the only Halloween party we can remember this year was mine! On Halloween Friday, 2,000 people came to Brooklyn and stormed the Knockdown Center for my new party, Muscle Memory. The theme was Dead Celebs, so everyone arrived dressed as their favorite celebrity who no longer lives. Carry Natiion, Volvox and Fashion Labeija hit decks on a misty dance floor filled with Amy Whinehouses, Elvis Presley and dead Glee characters. One of my favorite looks was a JFK shoot up. The place was filled with palm trees, which added to the Hollywood vibe (I’m afraid the fog machines might have killed them!) Dead Celebs easily won this month’s FOMO award, as the only icons that were not there were the deceased stars that we were all dressed like! The next Muscle Memory takes place this New Year’s Eve. You’re welcome New York!

October 30 – Devil’s Playground @ Webster Hall

Webster Hall resident producer Ty Sunderland has sold the 4-story room for his Saturday Halloween party. The theme? Gay Halloween. (Witty!) Gay Spidermen, gay Harry Potter and gay angels. Basically just add a harness to any classic costume. I was a gay Ronald McDonald. At 1:30 a.m., a brunette Kim Petras surprised us by performing five songs from her acclaimed Halloween album, Turn the lights off. She ended the show by drowning in blood on stage. The gays in the front row were also in the splash zone. The evening ended with “Last Dance” played over the speakers as Ty kissed with a tattooed hottie on the illuminated dance floor. Charity please!

October 31 – Boom @ Boom Boom Room + Le Bain

After a full week of Halloween parties held daily BUT Halloween, revelers in New York City have summoned the last of their serotonin to join Susanne Bartsch for Boom, her Halloween party atop the Standard Hotel. After a summer full of Tuesday nights from Susanne on the 16th floor, this was a perfect way to spend Halloween. I knew it was going to be packed because I got there early and saw the hotel pulling out the barricades. (The last time this happened was at the Met Gala in September and at Madonna’s Party in June). At the microphone, Bartsch – disguised as an insect – shouted “this grand piano looks really expensive, fuck it!” So, burlesque star (and Dita Von Teese’s best friend) Dirty Martini took off her clothes over them.

When I started this column this summer, I kept telling myself, “There’s no way next month will be better than this! But over time, the holidays just keep getting better. While it was the better evenings, they were certainly not the only ones. Every night this Halloween season the town was packed with many events of thousands of energetic people. For a holiday celebrating the dead, New York is more alive than ever.
